There is an easier way to play Hotel California and still sound good. The way we show here is beginner-friendly and much easier than the original (which you can still see in this ActionTab).
This is played on a standard 6 string acoustic guitar. You don't need a capo, and the song can be broken down into just 3 parts. Repeat them as needed:
Intro - This is the same chord progression as the verse, except strum each chord once and then pick through a few notes. You don't have to strictly follow this example, pick any notes from the chords that you like. Here's the progression:
B minor - F#7 - A major - E major - G major - D major (add and remove notes along the high E string) - E minor - F#7
Verse - Same chord progression as the intro, except with full strumming:
B minor - F#7 - A major - E major - G major - D major (add and remove notes along the high E string) - E minor - F#7 (repeat)
This strumming pattern works well, but you can use any variation you like.
Chorus - There are 2 small progressions for each chorus:
1. G major - D major (add and remove notes along the high E string) - F#7 - B minor
2. G major - D major (add and remove notes along the high E string) - E minor - F#7
Those are the only chords you need to get from start to finish of the song. Just repeat each part as required.
