This band is BIG. I mean BIG. They have nearly as many members as a football team, and probably have more of a following than any team I know of. Everyone knows the immortal songs 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Freebird' - and if you don't, then take a look at the featured ActionTab below. The odds are strongly towards you recognizing the tune in seconds.
Lynyrd Skynyrd exploded onto the scene back in 1973. The hard country rock flavor for the band came from truly great guitar riffs, inspired lyrics and sheer talent. This Jacksonville band has long been regarded as a band of the American working class. 30 years on, they are still rocking and working / performing almost every day that God sends. Many know about the tragic plane crash in 1977. It claimed the lives of singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines (vocalist). However, the band is still live and kicking. The band members are no strangers to adversity, but with hardworking blue collar roots and a passion for music and inspiring others, they continue to overcome and set a standard that still flies high today (and it's a proudly Southern standard).
