OK here's the epic November Rain. It's in Eb tuning, so tune each string down by 1 note to:
Low Eb:Ab:Db:Gb:Bb:Eb
This is the main backing guitar that runs through the entire song. We'll look at the fills and Slash's cool solos in separate ActionTabs.
The guitar doesn't start until after the intro, and a little way into the first verse. The key is C major (well, if we consider the Eb tuning it's actually B major, but it's simpler to consider it in C major).
Although there are variations, the basic chord progression for the verses can be seen from the start:
C major - D minor - G major - C major - D minor - G major - C major - F major
Then there is a little descending lick that is used throughout the song:
lick
Next, there are some simple chords as axl sings 'everybody needs some time on their own':
F major - G major (repeat)
Then do this simple progression (there is also an electric guitar kicking in here, which we'll show separately):
E minor - F major - C major - E5 - F major - D minor - E5 - F5 - C major - E minor - F major - G major
Next it's the first solo, the chords behind it are:
F major - D minor - C major - F major - D minor - C major - D minor - G major - C major - D minor - G major - C major
Then it's back to everybody needing some time on their own with the repeating F major - G major chords.
From there on, everything is more of the same. There are 2 parts of further interest:
Frilly bit - A little descending lick, leave it if it's too tricky.
Outro - This is just powerchords played as Slash stands on the piano to perform one his best solos. You probably want to switch to electric guitar for this part to rock it up. Besides, we'll look at the distorted guitar stuff next!
Have fun!
