This soft rock ballad is based around some simple chord progressions. We're picking through the chords here, but you can fingerpick if you prefer - either way is good.
The main guitar part uses quite a lot of tremolo and reverb effects. However, don't worry if you don't have those effects, a standard clean guitar sound will do fine. There are some chord fills from another distorted guitar. Apart from the solo, the distorted guitar just plays the same chord stabs played by this guitar.
The song is in the key of G major, and starts by picking through a G major barre chord. Followed by F major and C major chord stabs. You will hear the distorted guitar play these F and C chords too. This repeats and then just hold the G note.
After this, start into the verses by picking through these chords:
G major
E m
C major
D major
C major
Repeat once more then straight to:
E m
A sus2
G major
E m
G major
C major
D major
C major
Chorus:
G major
F major (stab)
C major (stab)
G major
After this, the song returns back to the beginning verse / chorus chords once again. Then the bridge:
G major
Repeat these two E chords 3 times:
E m (G in the bass)
E m
Then play A major twice, D major, C major (stab).
At this point the song rejoins the verse / chorus halfway through (at the second Em). After that, repeat the verse / chorus again, whilst the solo plays. From this point on there is nothing new to the chords. You should be able to play out to the end using the song parts you've already learned from the verse / chorus and bridge. In the next ActionTab we'll take a look at the solo.
