Fingerpicking is a strumming hand technique - and literally means to pick the strings using your fingers. It is an alternative to using the pick (plectrum). Here we will deal exclusively with fingerpicking techniques, and how they look in ActionTabs. So put aside your picks, bows and anything else you otherwise might be using and let's get plucking!
Fingerpicking (also called fingerstyle) is usually regarded as more complex than picking with a plectrum. However, it offers a very versatile approach to playing. Once you can fingerpick even just a little, the musical options open to you are very broad. Fingerpicking is commonly associated with classical, folk, acoustic, Spanish styles etc, but there are fingerpicked song examples for every style. It is a fantastic technique to master and definitely worth every bit of patience to get right!
